THE LOST GIRLS

Val Williamson

When the black bat flies in the darkening skies

And the fox is on the prowling

Somewhere a young girl weeps whilst the shadows creep

Outside the wolves are howling.

CHORUS

In the thick of the night, many lives have been lost

Many tears have been shed, many paths have been crossed

What will all the young girls do?

Will they ever, get together the lives they once knew?

Across the desert sands, into the promised lands

All these young girls were taken.

No chance to say goodbye,

Or ask the reason why their families all forsaken.

CHORUS

In Raqqa market she was sold,

Young girls as pure as gold, brought by the highest bidder

Though she fought and bit and raged, like an animal in a cage

No-one came forth to save her.

CHORUS

She never will forget the wrongs

Though her courage kept her strong and she finally her freedom

Her journey has been long and hard, and her memories will be scarred

With hope, she’ll find a new horizon.
