SPACEMAN

Rosie Rushton

Will you fly off in your spaceship to some far off galaxy?

Will you stop the wars, bring peace on earth, or just bring peace to me?

Will you know all the answers, will you find all the cures?

Will you be the next great poet and bring joy unto us all?

My son, who will you become?

For you laugh it is infectious and your smile it is contagious

Everyone who shares it, well I know their lives are richer for it son.

Who will you become?

The build a wall of limitations and they trampled through my dreams

Told me all the things you couldn’t do and would never achieve.

Impossible, unfortunate were terms they seemed to use,

But I held you close and I whispered I’ve got bigger dreams for you,

My son, who will you become?

Just keep trying, keep fighting

Keep climbing the mountains though they seem too high,

And just keep laughing, keep smiling.

Be honest and be truthful,

Be who you are today, my son.

Who will you become?

For you laugh it is infectious and your smile it is contagious

Everyone who shares it, well I know their lives are richer for it son.

Who will you become?

For you’re confident and passionate,

You take it all within your stride.

No shoreline too far to reach, and no mountain too high.

And yes we tripped and we stumbled, as we fought to find our way,

But I look back on the baby, and the man I know today,

I call my son.

Look at all you’ve become.
